Companion Diocese of Haiti Pilgrimage: June 2-8, 2008 “A special opportunity to share in our Companion Diocese Ministries”
Arrangements and plans for the upcoming Companion Diocese and Food for the Poor Pilgrimage to Haiti are underway. The Rev. Jay Pierce mailed a letter and pilgrimage facts to the congregations of the Diocese dated April 8, outlining the details of the trip.
This announcement is to remind clergy and congregations that those interested in traveling to Haiti in June must submit their names and deposits ($250 to Food for the poor.) for the pilgrimage as soon as possible. Please submit names to the rev. jay Pierce at frpierce@earthlink.net. We hope that each congregation will send at least one person on this pilgrimage. The timing of this works especially well for students and faculty. Be sure to invite those folks.
If you have not already done so, please advertise this trip in your bulletins and announcements. If you did not receive your letters and information about the pilgrimage from Jay, please let him know ASAP.
Details include: Dates: June 2-8, 2008 Cost: $1200.00 plus the cost of airfare from Lexington to Ft. Lauderdale. All other expenses: flight to and from Haiti, meals, lodging and group travel around Haiti are included in the fee. (Food for the poor will make all travel arrangements.)
On Monday, June 2, we will tour the new Food For the poor facilities in Fort Lauderdale, and depart for Port au Prince on Tuesday. While in Haiti, we will visit and do some work at numerous Food for the Poor ministry sites, including Bishop Sauls Village site where our diocese has provided funds for building homes and a water well. The pilgrimage will provide people from our diocese with opportunities to meet people from the Diocese of Haiti and to experience Christ’s ministry in a very powerful way.
If there are questions about the pilgrimage, please contact the rev. jay Pierce at frpierce@earthlink.net or 859-617-6745 or The Rev. Jan Dunnavant at jmdunnavant@insightbb.com.

names and addresses should be sent immediately to
EllenDarnall@diolex.org. Ellen maintains the Diocesan data base,
which includes The Advocate mailing list. YOU are the
link between your members and the news of the Episcopal Church in our
parishes and Diocese, and the Anglican Communion. The Advocate
carries important information about all levels of our church,
and helps us all understand what it means to be an Episcopalian. We
regret that we do hear comments such as:
Mark your office calendars now—“send address updates to Diocese” –after every confirmation, and at other regular times of the year.
It is also a good idea to put a notice in your parish bulletin, newsletter and on the web site, i.e.
As a communicant of the Episcopal Church in the Diocese of Lexington, you should receive a free subscription to The Advocate, which is our Diocesan newspaper, published 10 times each year. If for any reason you are NOT currently receiving The Advocate, please either notify the parish secretary and ask that they see that your name and address are entered in the Diocesan data base, or, you may contact Ellen Darnall, who maintains the data base, at ellendarnall@diolex.org. or call 859-252-6527.
