FIRST –TIME DEPUTIES:
Friday 8:30 – All first-time deputies are expected to attend new deputy orientation in the main meeting room at the Marriott Griffin Gate on Friday morning. Please plan to be on time!
SEATING FOR BUSINESS SESSIONS:
Clergy and elected deputies from each parish will be seated at assigned tables. Alternates, spouses, media and other visitors will be seated in other designated sessions. Only those with deputy badges will be admitted to the floor for business sessions, with marshals and pages assisting in directing people to appropriate seating. When an alternate plans to take the seat of an elected deputy, they must report to registration to be assigned a deputy badge in order to be admitted to the floor. All deputations are asked to respect the seating designations at all times during business sessions, to assist the head teller and tellers in identifying those who are eligible to vote.
RESOLUTION DEADLINE:
All resolutions must be received in the Diocesan office by Friday, Feb. 12, the business day 14 days prior to the opening of Convention. Canon 1.09 was amended in 2005 to require that resolutions be submitted on or before the 14th day in order to allow printed copies of proposed resolutions to be included in the advance packets . Packets of convention materials are digital and will be e-mailed at the address provided by deputies. Anyone who desires a hard-copy packet mailed at a cost of $5 per packet should contact ellendarnall@diolex.org. Resolutions should be mailed, e-mailed or hand-delivered to Convention Secretary, Mission House, Box 610, Lexington, Ky. 40588. They will be referred to the appropriate convention committee.
Resolutions submitted to the Secretary later than specified according to the 2005 decree shall be returned to the introducer without action. Resolutions may be introduced during Convention but may be acted upon only if introduced in the first Business Session of the Convention, the question before the Convention that of whether or not the Resolution shall be considered. Upon affirmative vote of two-thirds of the deputies, the resolution will be referred to an appropriate Convention Committee for study and report to the Convention. Resolutions that fail to receive the required vote as well as resolutions introduced after the close of the first business session of the Convention will not be considered.
NOMINATIONS FOR DIOCESAN OFFICES:
A call for nominations for Diocesan offices was posted in the Fall and Advent issues of The Advocate and on the Diocesan web page. The slate of nominees for Diocesan Offices which appears in the pre-convention packet and the winter edition of The Advocate was presented to the January meeting of Executive Council by the Nominating Committee, and is placed in nomination by the Executive Council upon their approval of the nominations. Any additional nominations must (1) have the consent of the nominee prior to nomination, (2) be placed in nomination at the time of the presentation of the slate during the first business session of convention, (3) and shall provide each clergy and lay deputy with a copy of a photo of the nominee, their profession, their parish and a 50-word statement of why they wish to be a candidate for the office, no more or less information than is provided for each official nominee.
