Resolution R-3: Diocesan Annual Convention Dates

(View without markup)

Be it resolved, that the 110th Diocesan Annual Convention shall convene its 111th Annual Convention the second weekend in the month of November 2006 and that all succeeding Conventions of this Diocese shall be convened at this that time.

Explanation

The Executive Council of the Diocese of Lexington has requested that the 110th Diocesan Annual Convention consider adopting a resolution adjusting the month of the year that the 111th Diocesan Annual Convention and all future Diocesan Annual Conventions are held.  Changing the months of the Convention from February to November facilitates the approval of an operating budget prior to the start of the upcoming year, and may encourage a broader base of participation with the potential for less inclement weather thus maximizing the convention’s effectiveness.  The year of adjustment should be made prior to 2007 so as not to interfere with the election of deputies for General Convention in 2008.

The year of adjustment shall ask all those currently elected to boards whose terms expire in February 2007 end their term on 12/31/06.  All present non-expiring terms and those newly elected board positions shall have terms that run with the calendar year.  Therefore, all terms shall now run January 1st through December 31st of the last year of the term.  The year of adjustment will ask all parishes who are not able to elect deputies to both conventions in 2006, hold elected deputies of the 110th Diocesan Annual Convention over for the 111th Diocesan Annual Convention.  The 111th convention may be held for one or two days to keep cost down and may be held at Christ Church Cathedral.  Christ Church is holding this weekend open for the Diocese at this time.

Respectfully submitted,
Executive Council of the Diocese of Lexington
