From ConventionThe convention passed resolutions:R–2: opposing the execution of juvenile offenders, and urging the passage of the amendment to KRS 640.040 and the signature of the Honorable Ernie Fletcher, Governor of Kentucky R–7: expressing the admiration and gratitude of the clergy and lay deputies of the 108th Convention for the perseverance, wisdom and visionary leadership of our Bishop, the Rt. Rev. Stacy F. Sauls, and the members of the Executive Council, recalling that it was Jesus’ prayer that all his believers be as one but also recognize that there are disagreements among us regarding the actions of the recent General Convention without taking any position on those issues that divide or separate us, we appreciate the commitment of our Bishop and members of the Executive Council to maintaining the mission, common prayer and sacramental focus which unite us; R-8: committing ourselves as members of the Episcopal Church and the worldwide Anglican Communion to educating ourselves about the workings of our unique Anglican polity, thereby equipping ourselves to participate in a full and educated way in our common life with our Bishop and leadership; R-9: commending to almighty God the needs of Haiti, Episcopalians with whom all share relationship and the leadership of Bishop Jean-Zache Duracin, and further, that members of the Diocese of Lexington step up our efforts to provide resources for relief and education through, but not limited to, Food for the Poor (Project Starfish), to Bishop Duracin, the Episcopal University of Haiti and Episcopal Relief and Development; R-10: in a time of crisis, judgment and hope, the clergy and lay deputies of the Diocese of Lexington reaffirm their love of God, their love for each other, and their love and concern for the Episcopal Church in the United States of America, and recognize that the ability to hold diverse beliefs while acting in good faith and with integrity and loyalty is a hallmark of the Anglican tradition, Further resolve that the clergy and people of the Diocese of Lexington be called to fast and pray for the clergy and people of the Episcopal Church in the United States of America, for the clergy and people in the Anglican Communion and for the Archbishop of Canterbury’s Eames’ Commission and its work in the planning for Episcopal oversight for dissenting congregations. Courtesy resolutions of thanks to Russell Johnson and the staff of Christ Church Cathedral for planning and compiling worships booklets; to Johnnie Ross and the people of St. James’, Prestonsburg, for the hospitality of the Opening Eucharist; to the Rt. Rev. Michael Curry for his stirring sermon during the opening Eucharist, including an official statement, “We love you, too.”; to the staff of the Eastern Ky. Science Center; to Toby Hall Conley, Deborah Thompson, Ron Penn and Donavan Cain for superb music at the Eucharist and throughout convention; to the clergy and people of the mountain churches and Johnnie Ross and the Convention Planning Committee; to Bill Sprague, David Cupps and Gary Gabbard for electronic communications; to Jenny Wiley State Park for its gracious hospitality; to Kent Gaitskill, Chas Calloway, Kay Collier McLaughlin, David Dick, Sam Dick and Steve Lyons for their talents and efforts in the production of The Mission Quilt; Warren Blackburn, a Reading Camp alumnus for being a guest at convention and expressing what Reading Camp meant to him; to convention pages Kevin Ross, James Creech, Christi Otten, Terri Creech, Treavor Marsh and Rachel Creech for their assistance; to members of the Diocesan Staff Maggie Hall, Andy Sigmon, Cindy Sigmon, Kay Collier McLaughlin, Ellen Darnall, Karma Cassidy, Donna Barr and Donavan Cain for their efforts in preparing and running the convention and their efforts throughout the year to uphold Christ’s mission in our diocese; to Marie Rogers, secretary of the convention, and to exhibitors at this convention.
