St. Michael’s Youth do Project Linus

Project Linus has become an important project for some members of St. Michael’s and its youth group.  Linus was one of the younger members of Charles Schulz’s Charlie Brown troop, easily identified by the blanket he carried everywhere.  His name has been lovingly assigned to a project which gives handmade blankets to families of children living with terminal illnesses.  Those who volunteer for the project serve in a number of capacities.  Some people form groups to make the blankets, some make stamps with which to decorate the blankets, and some deliver the blankets.  St. Michael’s youth group was able to participate in parts of the entire process.  Youth group meeting time was used to make blankets together.  On another day, youth group members traveled by van to Ronald McDonald House — a pilgrimage to deliver the blankets to the families of the ailing children.  For many families, the Ronald McDonald House is the only way that they can be near their dangerously ill or dying children.  The Project Linus blankets offer the children something to cling to, as well as something to give warmth.  It is the endeavor of Project Linus to offer these gifts that were fashioned and blessed by loving hands and hearts.
