LAY NOMINEES FOR GENERAL CONVENTION

Mary Beth Broughton

Church of the Resurrection, Jessamine County

Personal Statement:  I have a strong commitment to the Episcopal Church and will be bringing a representation of the children and young of the Episcopal Church.

 

Ann Davis McClain

St. Peter’s, Paris

Personal Statement:  Sr. Warden during interim, learned focus on what is necessary to run church efficiently; the importance of strong working relationship with one’s Bishop, crucial at all levels of our Church.  A strong believer in the Episcopal Church, also bring skills for reconciliation, financial management, a deep desire to heal current differences.

 

Jim Adams

Trinity, Covington

Personal Statement:  I enjoy working with people to bring about change, identifying goals, and assisting them in reaching their objectives in an organized and collegial manner.  It would be an honor to contribute these efforts at General Convention, a masterpiece of organization and administration, a joy to observe as did in Columbus.

 

Benjamin “Bungee” Bynum

Director of Reading Camp

Personal Statement:  My youth and experiences working in ministries with youth, HIV/AIDS education and reading Camp in this Diocese and in two dioceses in South Africa help me bring broad perspective to issues facing our communion.  I have also been involved in the Diocesan School for deacons and Executive Council.

 

Ann Richmond

St. John’s, Versailles

Personal Statement:  My experiences

at St. John’s when a large group of parishioners attempted a take-over and subsequently left is valuable in view of the trend at the national level.  Recently completed work on the Special Commission brought experience in conflict management and other issues that would be asset at General Convention.

 

Mary Jane Amick

St. Martha’s, Lexington

Personal Statement:  A person of faith and prayer, I believe in the Holy Spirit’s guidance of Convention.  With deep love for our church, I seek its strength and well-being.  As healer and consensus builder, use listening and reconciliation skills to bring people together.  Business, Diocesan leadership experience bring needed practical understanding; knowledge.

 

Jane Fitzpatrick

Christ Church Cathedral, Lexington

Personal Statement:  Experiences as President of Standing Committee and General Convention Deputy helped me to understand issues concerning the Episcopal Church USA.  I understand procedures of General Convention, helping me to reduce the anxieties of the moment and be attentive to the process.  I bring skills of listening, discernment, willingness to serve.

 

Dr. Robert Ross

Church of the Nativity, Maysville

Personal Statement:  I enjoy service that allows me to use my skills as a listener, problem solver, constructive questioner and consensus builder.  A life-long Episcopalian, I grieve at the strife and division of recent years, yet hold out great hope for our future.  I would like to help shape that future at the national Convention level.

 

Allison Asay

Christ Church Cathedral, Lexington

Personal Statement:  My Episcopal upbringing and life as a college student have taught me the importance of loving people for who they are, not who I wish them to be.  My qualifications are my struggle to love unconditionally, study of environment and human rights and the Episcopal Public Policy Network’s involvement therein.

 

Buckner Hinkle

Christ Church Cathedral, Lexington

Personal Statement:  My experience as Chancellor and a practicing attorney for 33 years prepares me to listen, understand issues of importance to be considered at General Convention and to communicate reasonably well.  Other experiences include Church Attorney for the Diocese, and parish leadership roles.

 

Austin Tuning

Personal Statement:  My skills, competencies and leadership style are fortified by a lifetime of successful experiences as educator, person of faith and involvement with people from many religions and cultures at all socio-economic levels.  Any success I enjoy is attributed to being a good listener with a sense of humor.

Personal Statement:  With more than 30 years in the Diocese and skills in service, organization and communication, I gladly and prayerfully offer my knowledge of and experience at the parish, diocesan and national levels to serve God through our Diocese in the important decisions facing our Church at General Convention 2009.

Personal Statement:  I have the ability to listen with an open mind to a variety of opinions and prayerfully discern God’s calling for our church, a good understanding of church history, scripture as foundation for decisions.  I believe we must overcome current problems to heal and grow our membership.

 

Mary Ann Weiss

Trinity Church, Covington

Personal Statement:  I believe a strong deputation from our Diocese would include both experienced members and newer faces. Knowledge gained from experience at prior Conventions, national Standing Commission, in the diocese and parish would help hold together the strong center of our beloved church. I try to read, listen and speak wisely.
