About Our Bishop

CLERGY NOMINEES FOR GENERAL CONVENTION

Elect four delegates and four alternates.

The Rev. Carol Ruthven

St. Andrew’s, Lexington

Personal Statement:  With twenty years of experience working in government and universities, I have a keen appreciation of policy formulation and decision-making. I am an attentive and open-minded listener.  As a deputy to General Convention, I would seek to promote prophetic leadership and unity within the body of Christ the Church.

The Rev. Donavan Cain

St. Peter’s, Paris

Personal Statement:  For the past three years, I have been immersed in the diversity of our church, interacting with Episcopalians from across the nation, while grounded in the experience of Episcopalians in our Diocese, as native son and clergyperson.  As a deputy, I would take these perspectives and that of the youngest generation of clergy to convention.

The Rev. Robert Sessum

Good Shepherd, Lexington

Personal Statement:  Having represented TEC at Anglican Communion functions, “seasoned” General Convention deputy, served on national Executive Council and Diocesan Council, I bring a great deal of experience, knowledge, resources and understanding of TEC and Communion to General Convention.   My deputy experience enhances possibility of placement on a GC committee.

The Rev. Dr. Jan Dunnavant

Church of the Resurrection, Jessamine County

Personal Statement:  I bring serious preparation of study and prayer necessary to serve as a deputy; willingness, patience, listening and facilitation skills, ability to share my own beliefs; commitment to serve on committees, attend, to discern through attendance at all legislative, debate, deliberation the mind of the Spirit in guiding the Church.

The Rev. Margaret Shanks

Director, St. Agnes’ House, Lexington

Personal Statement:  My involvement with the people of the community and of the church in my role as deacon equips me to represent us at General Convention.  It is the role of deacons to listen to the needs of the world, bring those needs to the church and help enable the church to meet them.

The Rev. T. Birch Rambo

Church of Our Saviour, Madison County

Personal Statement:  As a younger member of the clergy, I bring new perspectives to old problems.  When faced with a difficult situation, rather than react out of emotion or instinct, I prefer to consider the conflict thoroughly and then act decisively.  I believe the time is now for TEC to act decisively.

The Very Rev. Morris Thompson

Christ Church Cathedral, Lexington

Personal Statement:  Experiences as President of Standing Committee and General Convention Deputy helped me to understand issues concerning the Episcopal Church USA.  I understand procedures of General Convention, helping me to reduce the anxieties of the moment and be attentive to the process.  I bring skills of listening, discernment, willingness to serve.

The Rev. Canon Johnnie Ross

St. Thomas’, Beattyville

Personal Statement:  “…Something profoundly holy happens every time they gather…”  Written nearly 30 years ago after my first experience of Episcopalians and since experienced at many gatherings, particularly in General Convention.  To the work of deputy I also offer disciplines of study, prayer, patience and listening (with the ear of the heart.)

The Rev. Janey Wilson

St. Mark’s, Hazard

Personal Statement:  I am a perceptive listener and careful speaker, and regularly keep up with events in diocesan and national church news.  My strengths are team leadership, a strong awareness of the Holy Spirit (seeing the Holy in the Ordinary), and a pastoral presence. I also bring recent seminary education in Anglican studies.
